All vital events occurring within Costa Rica must be registered with the Civil Registry Office. Marriage events occurring abroad with one spouse being a Costa Rican national and the other being of another nationality must also be registered in Costa Rica. Similarly, birth occurring outside Costa Rica with one parent being of Costa Rican nationality must be registered in Costa Rica.
