Bangladesh does not have any specific legislation on the language of primary education regarding refugees. However, following the August 2017 large influx, the Ministry of Education, through a circular, prohibited the use of the Bangla language, Bangladesh’s national curriculum and teaching and learning materials for providing education to refugees. In 2021 the Government authorized the use of the Myanmar Curriculum in Myanmar language and on a pilot basis in Grades 6-9. Due to COVID-19, launching was delayed and started in late 2021. Since then, Rohingya children’s primary education in the camps is taught in the Burmese language.
