Analysis

Refugees can obtain the validation of diplomas obtained abroad, enabling them to engage in their professions in Costa Rica, either through wage-earning or as self-employed individuals. On the other hand, asylum seekers also have the option of seeking validation for their foreign-acquired diplomas, assuming they can obtain the corresponding work permit to practice their profession in adherence to the aforementioned requirements. Another noteworthy point is that asylum seekers, if aiming to practice their profession in Costa Rica, must consider that, alongside holding a work permit and validated degrees, their professional activities must strictly align with applicable regulations, confined to an employment engagement with a legal entity or another individual, and not as self-employed practitioners.
