Kenya's commitment to skills development is articulated through the National Skills Development Policy, which aims to create a skilled workforce that is employable, productive, innovative, and competitive. The policy focuses on strengthening governance and management of skills development, enhancing human capital, and aligning education with labor market needs.

For refugees and host communities, the government, in collaboration with international partners, has initiated programs to enhance skills and employment opportunities. The Refugee Employment and Skills Initiative (RESI), implemented by the International Trade Centre and the Norwegian Refugee Council, provides market-based solutions to foster income-generating opportunities for refugees and host communities in areas like Dadaab. RESI focuses on developing commercially valuable skills and supporting local small and medium-sized enterprises to create economic opportunities.

Additionally, the Life Skills and Training for Refugees and Host Communities project, commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, aims to improve the economic situation of refugees and host communities in Kakuma by providing life skills and vocational training.
