Description
The FDRE Constitution, under article 34(3), states that family is the natural and fundamental unit of society and is entitled to protection by society and the State. The Revised Family Code, reiterating what the Constitution provides, mentions that it is intended to regulate family relation by law as part of the legal protection to family. The Revised Family Code protects the family by regulation of marriage, irregular union, filiation, and relation among family members.
Selected provisions
Marriage celebrated abroad in accordance with the law of the Place of celebration shall be valid in Ethiopia so long as it does not contravene public moral.
