Description

The Kenya National Qualifications Framework Act, 2014 establishes a system for the development, recognition, and standardization of qualifications in Kenya. It creates the Kenya National Qualifications Authority (KNQA) to oversee the accreditation of institutions, harmonization of qualifications, and maintenance of a national database of qualifications. The Act promotes the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), defines qualification levels, and ensures the validation of foreign qualifications. By safeguarding the quality and integrity of qualifications, the Act facilitates mobility within education and training systems and ensures alignment with international standards.

Section 8. 1 - Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

Section 8(1)(k):

provide for the recognition of attainment or competencies including skills, knowledge, attitudes and values

Section 5 - Prohibition of Unaccredited Institutions:

Section 5:

(1) An institution shall not award national qualifications unless such an institution is—

(a) recognised or accredited in accordance with this Act; or

(b) a university accredited in accordance with the Universities Act (No. 42 of 2012).

(2) Any person who contravenes the provisions of this section commits an offence and shall be liable upon conviction to imprisonment for a term not exceeding six months or to a fine not exceeding five hundred thousand shillings or to both.
