Do domestic laws and policies provide for people to enter the country for the purpose of seeking asylum?

Analysis
There are no specific Bangladeshi domestic laws and policies that explicitly grant asylum-seekers at the border automatic access to territory. The legal framework in Bangladesh primarily focuses on immigration control and does not include provisions that guarantee asylum-seekers the right to seek and receive asylum within the country's borders.
Bangladesh’s land borders are monitored and managed by the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB). Domestic laws such as The Foreigners Act, 1946, The Control of Entry Act, 1952 and The Bangladesh Passport Act 1920 does not permit the BGB to allow asylum-seekers at the border to access the territory. However, in practice there are close to one million Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh who fled persecution in Myanmar and crossed the border seeking international protection. Recently, the officials of the Government of Bangladesh have announced closed border position with Myanmar to prevent more Rohingya from entering Bangladesh. Law enforcement agencies have been directed to strictly follow the closed border strategy and push back Rohingya seeking refuge in Bangladesh with many reports made regarding enforcement of such policy. Reports additionally suggest that since January 2024 to 5 May 2025, 10194 Myanmar individuals are reported to have faced pushback by the Border Guard Bangladesh as they fled the escalated conflict in Rakhine and sought safety in Bangladesh. 2,516 of these refoulement-related incidents occurred in 2025, making up almost a quarter (24 per cent) of all such incidents since January 2024
