Do domestic laws and policies allow forcibly displaced and stateless persons to exercise liberal professions, when they hold relevant diplomas or qualifications?
Assessment by population
Analysis
Domestic laws and policies in Bangladesh do not provide refugees the right to exercise their liberal profession or work in professional fields when they hold relevant diplomas or qualifications. In practice in the refugee camps, as guided by the Government, Rohingya refugees can opt for cash-for-work schemes operating in the camps and under this, refugees can be employed as Field Assistants, Community Health Care Providers, Assistant Teachers, Field Supervisors, Head Teachers and Master Trainers which are categorized as liberal professionals. Any relevant diplomas or qualifications achieved by Rohingya refugees in their country of origin are accepted in practice in the Cox’s Bazar/Bhasan Char camp context while being recruited by the humanitarian agencies.
